This phase has now been completed. Please visit the Visionary Framework page for information on the next stage of the project
Having considered the results and conclusions of Phase 1 and Phase 2 consultation undertaken earlier on this year, the Daedalus Project Team produced five initial masterplan concepts which show how different land uses could be accommodated at Daedalus.
The objective of this phase of consultation is to gain a better understanding of the viability of each of the concepts. This will be done in a number of ways which includes understanding what the community’s, businesses and the councils’ views are. The concepts also need to be technically assessed to consider the impact each could have on the economy, transport, ecology and so on.
Daedalus Exhibition
The Daedalus Exhibition was held between 12pm – 8pm on Friday 7 and between 9.30am - 12.30pm on Saturday 8 December at the Lee Methodist Church Hall. Nearly 900 people attended to find out more about the five masterplan concepts.
Those who attended had the opportunity to talk to members of the Project Team as well as being invited to complete Comment Forms which aimed to identify what they liked and disliked about each of the concepts. Some of those who attended were randomly selected and asked if they could complete a short questionnaire which sought to identify which concepts they preferred in respect of specific uses. A report detailing the results and conclusions of this will be available on the website shortly.
In addition to the display panels which showed the concepts as well as the benefits and concerns of each. Attendees also had the opportunity to view a computer simulated flyover of the site created by the Environment Agency (EA).

EA has recently been undertaking some computer modelling work to help assess the potential implications of rising sea levels and coastal flooding. A part of this work was the collection of information about the heights of buildings along the coast - including those at Daedalus.
The Project Team worked with EA to manipulate this data and produce a computer simulation flyover of the site. This useful visual resource gave people who attended the Exhibition an opportunity to gain a better understanding of what buildings are currently on the site.

Many thanks to all who attended the event.
Static Displays
For those unable to attend the Exhibition, a summary of the panels displayed were available for you to view at Lee-on-the-Solent library, Stubbington library, Fareham library and Gosport Discovery Centre from 11 December to mid January 2008.
Other Work
Whilst the thoughts and views of the local community are very important to us, there are a number of additional aspects of work and consultation that need to be undertaken. The emerging masterplan will consider the results and conclusions of all this work.
Further supporting technical work will be undertaken to consider in more detail the impact that each concept could have on the local economy, the transport network and ecology on site.
Members of the Project Team will be discussing the masterplan concepts with officers and councillors at Hampshire County Council (HCC), Fareham Borough Council (FBC) and Gosport Borough Council (GBC). This will enable the team to gain a better understanding of what the councils believe is possible at the site in terms of possible land uses, planning constraints and transport improvements.
All five masterplan concepts show how employment could be accommodated on the site. The Project Team has been, and will continue to, meet and engage with businesses who might be interested in locating to the site in the long term. The Team are keen to understand what businesses consider the opportunities and constraints to be in terms of locating to and operating from Daedalus.

Next Steps?
It is envisaged that a masterplan for the site will begin to emerge from the results and conclusions of all the work that is being undertaken in the early part of 2008. It is anticipated that this will be available to share with all the stakeholders during late Spring/Summer 2008. Further details will be posted on the website in due course.
